    The University of Maiduguri has signed an MOU with the FACT Foundation to boost innovation, research, and sustainable development at the university. In a major initiative, OPay is investing in UNIMAID with a ₦1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship program to support students and promote youth empowerment. The Vice‑Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele, participated in a high-level meeting with the UNDP UniPod Innovation Hub, emphasizing the university’s role in entrepreneurship and technology development. UNIMAID will hold its 25th Combined Convocation Ceremony and Golden Jubilee Celebration on November 28, 2025, covering graduates from multiple academic sessions. The University is equipping its graduates with not just academic skills but entrepreneurial and strategic thinking, according to the new vision laid out by the VC. UNIMAID recently presented certificates to NTI, Kaduna graduates in a ceremony showing its commitment to its affiliated institutions. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at UNIMAID has strongly opposed the federal government’s decision to rename the university after the late President Buhari, calling for a reversal.

    Zulum Says the Worst Is Over
    Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum declared that “the worst of the Boko Haram insurgency is over,” even though there have been recent attacks.

    Security Gains & Recent Clashes
    While Governor Zulum’s remarks are optimistic, there’s still tension. Earlier this month, troops repelled an attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP in Mallam Fatori.

    Call for Continued Cooperation
    During a meeting with the Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Zulum urged citizens to keep supporting security agencies, sharing intelligence, and staying vigilant.

    Rehabilitation Spending
    The Borno government has reportedly spent over ₦6 billion in the past 18 months to rehabilitate “repentant” Boko Haram fighters.
